Sup, y’all?
We’re back, and here’s the soundtrack for this month:
Do some chair dancing while you read this.
What We’re Up To
Hope the spring is springing for you wherever you are. The trees are green, flowers have bloomed and the sun is setting at almost 9pm. It doesn’t get much better than that.
We dropped an episode about one of the all-time greats last week, the late, great Heavy D. We discussed his discography and some of his career highlights. You can check it out below if you haven’t already heard it.
We also have a new episode dropping on Friday, so make sure to check that out when it hits your podcast service of choice.
Miguel recently posted a new class on Skillshare, so if you or someone you know is interested in starting their own podcast, click the photo below to access the course. You’ll receive one free month of Skillshare too!
What We’re Watching
MoviePass, MovieCrash on Max (U.S.) and Crave (Canada)
I remember when MoviePass first came on the scene, and I really wanted something like this here in Canada, but like most things involving media, we weren’t as lucky. Honestly, I didn’t even realize that it had gone away until I saw the trailer while looking for something to watch the other night.
What starts off as a story about a company that (maybe) grew too big, too fast turns into something completely different. Without spoiling it, about 30 minutes in, there’s a moment that turns you into this gif of Gary Payton.
Especially if you don’t know the back story of the company. And then it all starts to make sense. That’s all I’m gonna say.
What We’re Reading
Ayo Edibiri covers this month’s Vanity Fair.
Kaytranada discusses his career and upcoming album with Rolling Stone.
This Andcsape article about what Kendrick Lamar can teach us about our enemies.
Quinta Brunson, Maya Rudolph, Michelle Buteau and more on The Hollywood Reporter’s comedy actress roundtable. You can also watch the video here.
What We’re Listening To
Make It Last Forever by Keith Sweat
While prepping for our next two episodes, we ended up listening to A LOT of New Jack Swing over the past couple of weeks. One of the albums that I kept coming back to was this. I was in 7th grade when this came out and it was in heavy rotation then, and as of this week, it’s back in heavy rotation. You should add it to yours too.

You Down Wit’ O.P.P.? (Other Peoples Podcasts)
The Fun House with Kid N’ Play by Urban One Podcast Network
I stumbled upon this while doing some research a couple of weeks ago and decided to give it a shot. I didn’t really have any expectations for it, and it ended up being better than I thought it would be. I’ve only heard the first episode, but I’ll definitely give it another listen. I’m always a fan of people being interviewed by their peers.
Powered by hip-hop legends and movie stars Kid n Play, The Fun House podcast is a curated platform that celebrates 50+ years of hip-hop and the impact its had globally on all cultures. The riveting podcast features coveted interviews across diverse guests and an enviable trip down memory lane with some of today’s most celebrated new artists along with the founding fathers of hip hop.
