There's an air of love and of happiness
...and this is the Fresh Prince's new definition of summer madness
Have y’all had the chance to hit any BBQ’s or family reunions yet this summer? Heading back down south to my aunt’s house, getting it in just like in this video. Those moments with my cousins are some of my favorite memories.
BTW, this is one of the greatest songs/videos of all time. Debate your auntie with the mustache.
What We’re Up To
Hey y’all. Hope all is well on your side of the inbox. Since our last newsletter, we dropped an episode where we discussed the filmography of one of our favorite actors, Jeffrey Wright, who you may know from television shows like Boardwalk Empire and Westworld, or his film roles in The Hunger Games and James Bond franchises. When you talk about someone having range, this man should be in everybody's top 5, and for that reason, we're discussing our favorite Jeffrey Wright moments.
We have a new episode dropping on the 9th about one of our faves who is no longer with us, but the music lives through, the great Amy Winehouse. This will be our last new episode for the summer, but we’ll be back at the end of September. In the meantime we’ll still be dropping content until we return.
What We’re Watching
Stevie Van Zandt: Disciple on Max
I knew of Steven Van Zandt as Little Steven, a member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, and for playing Silvio on The Sopranos. I had no idea that he was an activist and had a role in helping to end apartheid. That was a surprise.
Stevie Van Zandt, New Jersey’s famous consigliere to Bruce Springsteen and Tony Soprano, takes center stage in Stevie Van Zandt: Disciple. The documentary traces his career as a producer, musician, songwriter, activist, actor, and more — from Asbury Park clubs and arena stadiums to the Bada Bing Club and the Underground Garage. Featuring exclusive interviews with Bruce Springsteen, Darlene Love, Eddie Vedder, Paul McCartney, and Bono, the film illuminates the influential and enduring legacy Van Zandt continues to have as a fervent champion of rock ‘n’ roll and social justice.
I just randomly came across this one night while flipping channels, and it ended up being a very entertaining watch. Check it out if you get the chance.

What We’re Listening To
The Auditorium, Vol. 1 by Common & Pete Rock
Continuing the trend of rappers who released their first album in the ‘90s dropping amazing pieces of work in 2024, we have Common and Pete Rock joining forces on The Auditiorium, Vol. 1. I love the fact that artists we grew up listening to aren’t just relegated to just hitting the festival and a nostalgia tour circuit, but are dropping quality albums for us '“old heads” to listen to. I’m all for this adult contemporary hip hop that we’ve been getting as of late.

Excuse Me, That’s Illegal by Leroy Luna
We’ve been listening to this one off and on for a couple of years now, and if you’re into true crime but not necessarily into stories with gory details, then this might be the show for you.
Need a little break from stories of murder and heartache? Join your boy Leroy as he takes a hardcore look at some softcore crimes.
Leroy Luna finds weird stories of low level crimes and basically gives a recap of the news story with some juvenile, dad-joke commentary. It’s very silly and the episodes are usually less than 30 minutes, so you can get in and out pretty quickly.
Listen to more episodes of Excuse Me, That’s Illegal here.
Random Internet Shenanigans

The epic journey picks up in the late 90s’ when, single mom Youree Harris finds herself desperate to take care of her family and takes a job at the Psychic Readers Network -- only to become one of the network’s most beloved personalities, Miss Cleo. But her challenges don’t end there and when the network faces allegations of fraud and deception, they turn their sights on Miss Cleo. For the first time ever, Miss Cleo’s side of the story will finally be told.
