Just hit the eastside of the LBC...
This is what we’re on today.
What We’re Up To
Hey y’all!
Hope all is well on your side of the inbox. It’s the start of Black Music month, it’s the start of Pride month and we are about 3 weeks away from the start of summer, and it’s gonna be the best one that you’ve ever had. You heard it here first. You’re gonna take that trip. You’re gonna hang out with your people. You’re gonna sit in your backyard/on your balcony/next to your window looking out at the city/wherever and do nothing but relax for a couple of hours 3 times a week until October. Do it.
If you haven’t heard our most recent episode, you can check it out here:
We get into Warren G’s Regulate… G Funk Era album, as well as some of our other favorite Warren G moments.
On another note, this will most likely be our last newsletter on Substack. We’ve moved our content to a couple of places to test, and now we’re just feeling out what is gonna be the best fit moving forward. We won’t be deleting what’s already here, but at the same time, we won’t be posting anything new. Once we’ve decided on where we’re gonna set up shop, we’ll post the new url here and send an email, so you’re not caught off guard when you get the newsletter from a new location.👍🏾

What We’re Watching
The 51st AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Eddie Murphy on Netflix
This one we haven’t actually watched yet, since it came out last night, but it’s one that I think we’re all interested in, and most likely won’t go down like The Roast of Kevin Hart.
The 51st AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Eddie Murphy honors one of the most influential and beloved figures in film, celebrating a career that has redefined comedy and left a lasting impact on global audiences. AFI’s highest honor recognizes artists whose work has fundamentally advanced the art of film and stood the test of time - an accolade that reflects Murphy’s decades of cultural influence across iconic blockbuster roles and critically acclaimed performances. Featuring an all-star lineup of collaborators, friends and admirers, the ceremony captures the humor, heart and versatility that define Murphy’s legacy, offering an entertaining and intimate look at a true cinematic trailblazer.

What We’re Listening To
Retrospect by Mya
Mya takes us on a trip to the past with her latest album, Retrospect. She describes the music as an homage to what she grew up listening to, so there’s a lot of 70s & 80s funk elements that will be recognizable to those of us of a certain age.
It could have done without the rap verses, though, because they didn’t really add anything. It’s a solid listen otherwise.

You Down Wit’ O.P.P.? (Other Peoples Podcasts)
IRL by Angie Martinez
When we first started listening to this one back in 2017, it was co-hosted by Angie Martinez and Miss Info. After one season, they called it quits. Angie brought it back in 2022 and has been going ever since. I hadn’t listened to it since the reboot, but the most recent episode with Queen Latifah pulled me back in.
Created and hosted by renowned media personality Angie Martinez, “IRL” sees Angie and notable guests sitting down to candidly explore the magic of life, it’s fragility, purpose and complexities. Angie’s conversations will explore legacy, philosophies, and the extraordinary ways we choose to live our real lives.
