We made it through season 3 of 2019. We’re still here and glad that you’re rocking with us. We know that you’re rocking with us, because like everyone else, we got our #SpotifyWrapped…
We’ve seen a lot of growth on the other platforms as well, so thank you all for your support. 2023 is gonna be our biggest year yet.
Let’s get into it
What We’re Watching
Flatbush Misdemeanors was a series on Showtime in the U.S. & Crave in Canada. It was recently cancelled in September, but that’s no reason for you not to get into it.
Dan Perlman plays Dan, a high school teacher who is addicted to Xanax, while Kevin Iso is Kevin, a talented but struggling artist who does odd jobs to make money and sleeps on Dan’s couch. Two friends who are both suffering from depression and have social anxiety issues, shouldn’t be funny, but this show is hilarious. Every episode they find themselves in terrible situations, usually through no fault of their own, but they always seem to make things worse.
We just released an episode about this show last week, and the day that we recorded it, we found out about the cancellation maybe 2 hours before. So, here we are telling you all to check it out, and it’s over. There’s still two solid seasons for you to catch up on, and we promise that you will enjoy it.
What We’re Reading
Mariah Carey & Michaela Angela Davis - The Meaning Of Mariah Carey
I started reading this when we did the episode about the 25th anniversary of Butterfly, and if you're a Mariah Carey fan, check it out if you haven’t already. It gives you insight into how her life was as a child, her family struggles, her troubled marriage with Tommy Mottola, and it gives a clearer picture of who Mariah Carey really is.
I didn't realize how funny she was. I thought she was just, "I'm a diva, I'm above comedy and hijinks," but no, that's what she does. She's all about comedy and hijinks and I love it. People think she's being serious, but she has a really dry sense of humor, so she can say funny shit with a straight face, and folks just assume that she's this big diva, but she's not, she's just joking most of the time.
This is definitely worth the read, although I would recommend getting the audio version for the best experience. Hearing these stories directly from Mariah makes it better.
What We’re Listening To
Nas - King’s Disease III
I’m just gonna come out and say it. Musically, Hit-Boy is the best thing to happen to Nas in a long time. We all know that Nasir Jones is one of the best to ever pick up a microphone, but after Illmatic, it seemed that he was always trying to be Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, causing the majority of his albums to be inconsistent. I don’t know what it is with this pairing, but they’re giving us the most entertaining Nas that we’ve ever seen. 4 albums in 4 years? Whatever has caused this burst of inspiration, we’re here for it. We may have to drop another Nas episode in 2023. 🤔
Suggested tracks: Legit, 30, Recession Proof, I’m On Fire.
Everybody Gettin’ Sump’n Playlist
Here’s a little playlist that we’ve put together for December. Something to help get you through the work day, road trips or any get togethers that you may be hosting this year. Also, let this be your annual reminder that “Player’s Ball” by Outkast is a Christmas song.
