What We’re Watching
The Best Man & The Best Man Holiday
Before getting into The Best Man: The Final Chapters, we decided to rewatch the first two movies in the series to get a refresher on the storylines, and if there’s one thing that stays consistent across both films, it’s the fact that Harper Stewart (Taye Diggs) ain’t shit. Just the worst.
Also, we realized that we could probably do an episode on the majority of the cast, but for now, we’re just gonna focus on one. I wonder who that’s gonna be? 🤔
What We’re Reading
The Beautiful Ones by Prince & Dan Piepenbring
I started reading "The Beautiful Ones" early last year, but put it down for a while, going back to it over the holidays. It’s an unfinished memoir by Prince, published in 2019 after his death in 2016. The book was compiled and edited by Dan Piepenbring, who was collaborating with Prince on it at the time of his passing. It’s based on Prince's handwritten notes, although the introduction is written by Piepenbring, and covers his life and career up until the release of his groundbreaking album "Purple Rain" in 1984. If you’re a fan of Prince’s work, then I would suggest checking this out. For someone as mysterious as Prince, this is probably the most open that he had ever been, and you can’t help but to think about what the rest of the book would have been like if he had the chance to finish it.
What We’re Listening To
De La Soul Is Dead by De La Soul
Last week, I sent over the full De La Soul discography to a friend of mine who had lost his copies, so I took the time to add a couple to my phone since none of these albums are available for streaming (but they will be soon.) For some reason, I just keep coming back to this one. Probably because of tracks like this:
Even though the skits can be a bit annoying, the rest of the songs more than make up for it.
Suggested tracks: Oodles Of O’s, Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey), Pass The Plugs, Afro Connections At A Hi 5, A Roller Skating Jam Named “Saturdays”
Shameless Plugs
