It’s the first day of April! Winter’s over, we made it to spring. Let’s dance.
What We’re Up To
Hey y’all!
Hope all is well on your side of the inbox today! Things are good over on this side. The sun is rising earlier and setting later, and that’s always a good thing.
We’ve got a new episode, “Where Are My Background Singers?!?!” dropping at the end of the week, but in the meantime, check out our Bell Biv DeVoe if you haven’t already. We discussed their New Edition days, what led to the formation of BBD and how their album Poison, changed R&B music forever. Get into it.👇🏾
What We’re Watching
Dope Thief on Apple TV+
Brian Tyree Henry is one of the greatest actors of this generation, and he doesn’t disappoint in this. Ever since he came on the scene as Alfred aka Paper Boi in Atlanta, there hasn’t been anyone who has played frustrated and disappointed characters better than him. This is no different.
It was the perfect grift until they chose the wrong mark. Two lifelong friends (Brian Tyree Henry and Wagner Moura) in Philadelphia pose as DEA agents to rob small-time drug dealers. It’s a perfect grift—until they choose the wrong mark and become targets of a massive narcotics enterprise.

You Down Wit’ O.P.P.? (Other Peoples Podcasts)
Black Is America by Dominic Lawson
In Black Is America, Dominic speaks on the many contributions by Black folks in America that have moved the country forward, while getting little to no recognition in the eyes of a certain demographic. In “these uncertain/unprecendented times,” when stories of the past are being washed away in real time, we need to preserve as many as we can, ourselves. This pod does a great job of that.
The Black Is America podcast highlights little-known African American figures who helped write the story of America. Join us as we shed new light on lost chapters in our nation's history. Hear the amazing, inspiring accounts of black American inventors, heroes, scientists, entrepreneurs and so much more.
While racism is a common theme, it is not the central theme. These stories focus instead on what black people have contributed in spite of it, and the impact of those contributions shows clearly that African American History is American History.
